Lieu de décès : Halifax, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 12 septembre 2011

FITZGERALD, Marion Frances — 93, passed away peacefully in Halifax Monday, September 12, 2011. Marion was born in the Lower East Pubnico lighthouse to Austin James Amiro and Tessie (Amirault). Marion grew up in the lighthouse, La Light as it was called locally, where her father was lightkeeper and lobster fisherman. She and Rita helped her mother operate The Lobster Pot, a family owned restaurant specializing in fresh local lobster. Marion completed her studies in a two room schoolhouse in Pubnico, then worked in Boston before settling in Halifax where she worked until she got married. Murray was studying electrical engineering at Nova Scotia Technical College when they met at a dance at St. Mary’s Boat House. Murray went on to become a career officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, a job in which he and Marion travelled throughout Canada and the United States and lived for a time in Europe. After Murray's death Marion chose to make her home in a tall building in Halifax where she could look out any window and see the ocean. Over the course of her life, she was a talented artist and musician, an avid reader, and an accomplished gardener. In later life she learned to sail and could navigate by the stars. She is survived by her sister Rita (Clarence) d'Entremont, children Pat (Jim) Gould-Thorpe, Terry (Terry) Sulymko, grandchildren Joanna (Dave Tremblay), Brenda (Donnie Pritchard) and John Alan (Jeannie Ma), great grandchildren Elizabeth and Patrick Tremblay, and sister-in-law Lorraine Rasmussen. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Henry “Murray” Fitzgerald, brothers Ben and Dellie. A funeral mass was celebrated at St. Mary's Cathedral, on Monday, September 19. Donations in Marion's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
