Marie Allen passed away peacefully at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer with her loving family by her side.
Born in Bras d’Or, Marie was the eldest daughter of the late Benny and Eliza Young.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Bob; her son, Robert (Wendy) and her daughter, Gail; brothers, Alex (Marge), Frank (Shirley); sisters, Lex (Ron), Lenora (Emerson), Sally (Brozy), Nelida, Naish (Harry); her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her dear son, Dale and brothers, Ben (Sara) and John D. (Nancy).
Marie and Bob resided in Ontario for 53 years before returning to Cape Breton. She was very active in the CWL, receiving her 55 year pin. She was in the pastoral lay ministry to the hospital and the elderly. In her parish life she proudly served for many years as a eucharistic minister and lector. Marie enjoyed her retirement in Cape Breton with her family and friends. Although she battled many illnesses, she never lost her faith. She delighted in giving to others and liked everyone she met.
The family would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Roy Smith and to Palliative Care, especially Susan MacKenzie, Dr. Ritter, Dr. Gormon, Dr. D’Intino, Dr. Pahil, Dr. Mahmood Ahmed, the VON Home Care and all who supported us with care and compassion and to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines with Fr. Thomas John officiating.
