It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Edena MacDonald on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North River, Victoria County, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Rachael (MacDonald) MacAskill.
She moved to Sydney in 1945 and was a resident of Alexandra Street. Edena was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Edena is survived by her children, Racine (David) Hillier, Sydney, Malden (Brenda), Westmount, Alvin (Lorry), Spokane, Wash., Milton (Louann), Sydney; 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Murdock, daughter-in-law, Palma MacDonald, five sisters and six brothers.
There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with Rev. Bob Lyle officiating. Interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery, North River.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Palliative Care, Cancer Society, or charity of choice.
