Martin Willems, a resident of Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility passed away Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009.
Born in Siebengewald, Netherlands, he was the son of the late Leonardus and Petronella (Graat) Willems. Martin was a member of St. Joseph’s parish, Mira.
He was employed at St. Rita’s Hospital, Sydney as a stationary engineer for many years. Martin will be remembered for his quick sense of humour and his love of music and gardening.
Martin is survived by his wife, Helen (Gaudet); son, Mark; brother, Antoon ‘Tony’ Willems; brothers-in-law, Ernie (Louise) Gaudet and Frankie (Connie) Gaudet; sisters-in-law, Frances (Harold) Hatcher and Eileen O’Brien; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Martin was predeceased by his brothers, Gerrad, Johannus, Hendrikus, Hermanus, Josef, Pete, Nul, Wim and Leo, sisters, Tilt, Meen and Graat, all of the Netherlands, as well as Ernest and Dorothy Gaudet, Mira Road.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 12-2 p.m. followed by a service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Patrick O’Neil officiating. Interment in the St. Joseph’s Church Cemetery, Brickyard Road.
