
Dr Kathir "Pat" Padmanathan PhD
Padmanathan, Dr. Kathir “Pat”, PhD, Bible Hill, departed this world on September 25, 2011 at Shannex, Vimy Court, Bible Hill, N.S.. Born in Jaffna, Ceylon he was the eldest son of the late Mr. & Mrs. V.K. Nathan, Director of Education. His early education was at St. John’s College and he later received his undergraduate degree in Natural Science and Agriculture from the University of Ceylon. He joined the Department of Agriculture in Ceylon as Corps Research Officer and after nine years of service he left Ceylon on a scholarship to do his Masters in statistics at the University of California, Davis. He transferred from Davis to Penn State University to do his PhD and graduated in Genetics and Statistics. He moved to Nova Scotia in 1968 and taught at the Agricultural College as Professor for 20 years and then taught for four years after retirement. He spent his winters in California for a few years and then traveled a lot in the winter and spent the summer enjoying gardening. He was a member of the Golden K and the Gyro Club. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Kamala; son, Dr. Harin (Rina); daughter, Shiromi (Dale) and four grandchildren, Alexandra, Justin, Miranda and Asia. At his request there will be no visitation or funeral. Cremation has taken place. Donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Agricultural College.
