PHILLIPS, JAMES “JIM” R. - James “Jim” R. Phillips, 86, of McNair Manor, Riverview and formerly of People’s Park Tower,Moncton, with his loving family at his side, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday September 25, 2011. Born in MacKinnon Siding, he was the son of the late Harry and Grace (LeFurgey) Phillips. Jim was a retired Captain with the Moncton Fire Department (26 years service), member of West Lane Baptist Church, Moncton Orange Lodge LOL#62 and the Moncton Legion #6. He was a veteran of the Second World War having served overseas with the Carleton York Regiment, Canadian Army (1944-1946). He enjoyed fishing, hunting, carpentry, working and building items with his hands, was an avid gardener, enjoyed socializing with his friends and spending quality time with his family.
Jim will be sadly missed by his loving wife of over 69 years, Beulah (Kelly) Phillips; daughter, Beatrice LeBlanc (Valmond) of Fredericton; sons, Henry (Jane) of Moncton, David (Valerie) of Woodstock and Robert “Bob” of Moncton; eleven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren; sister, Lottie Phillips of Moncton; brother, Sanford “Sandy” (Lorraine) of Lower Coverdale; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Marion and Sadie; half sisters, Retta MacPhee, Bessie Golding and Dora Page; brothers, Joe, John, Harry, Dave and Norman; half brothers, George and Herald.
Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road Moncton (858-1995), Wednesday from 7 to 9pm. Moncton Legion #6 Memorial Service, Wednesday at 6:30pm. Funeral Service to be held at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday September 29, 2011 at 1:30pm with Rev. Scott Ryder and Rev. Winston Parks officiating. Reception following the service in the Funeral Home Reception Centre. Interment, Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.
