SAMPLE, Sadie Elizabeth – 96, Vimy Court, Bible Hill, formerly of Stellarton, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, September 27, 2011, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born April 30, 1915, in Stellarton, she was a daughter of the late Edwin and Sadie (Carter) MacDonald. Sadie was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton, and worked at Goodman’s Department Store, New Glasgow, for many years. An avid outdoorswoman, she enjoyed fishing and hunting. She enjoyed curling with leagues in Stellarton and watching curling on television and also enjoyed watching and cheering on her favourite baseball team, Toronto Blue Jays. Sadie is survived by her son, John (Faith) Semple, Truro; granddaughters, Robin Stevenson, Kim Semple, Karen Crowell, all of Truro; Cheryl Thompson, Ottawa; brother, Edward (Jean) MacDonald, St. Catharine’s, Ontario; sisters-in-law, Kathleen MacDonald, Westville; Jean MacDonald, Hamilton, Ontario; many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John Walter “Nip” Sample; sister, Mae (Howard) Oliver; brothers, Kempt and Alex MacDonald. Sadie’s family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at Vimy Court for the compassionate and wonderful care given. A private family graveside service will be held in Brookside Cemetery, New Glasgow, with Reverend Charles MacPherson officiating. If so desired, donations in Sadie’s memory to First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton, are welcomed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro.
