MacKenzie, Carl - 91, Bible Hill, passed away October 15, 2009 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born March 22, 1918 in Truro, he was a son of the late Winburn and Abbie MacKenzie Lynds. Orphaned at age four, he was brought up by his grandparents, the late Johanna and Murdock MacKenzie and his uncle, the late Colin MacKenzie. An avid horseman all his life, Carl owned and raced his first horse, Nova Silk, at age fifteen and owned numerous horses during his career. Marg and Carl also raised some very successful horses under the name of the Wayvue Stable Home, Champ Wayvue was the first two year old to win in 2.10 or better. He was secretary-treasurer of the N.S. Harnesss racing circuit; past secretary-treasurer of the Truro Horsemen’s Club, Race Secretary and Manager of the Truro Raceway for twenty-six years. Carl received awards from the N.S. Provincial Exhibition Raceway, the Atlantic Standardbred Breeders Assc., the Truro Harness Horse Owners Assc. and the Glen Kennedy Memorial Award. When asked how Carl was, his reply was always the same, “Still Kickinâ€. How he loved to watch his favourite, “Red Soxâ€, “Toronto Maple Leafs†and the “Scoreâ€. Carl was a great listener of the old country music. His favourite cat “Tootsie†will surely miss him. Carl had some very special ladies, Dixie MacKay and Roseann Langille, whom he called “Carl’s Angelsâ€. They provided special care, support and especially took care of Carl’s “sweet toothâ€. These ladies will miss him greatly. Many thanks for the past 14 weeks to the nurses on 4 East, Lynn, Shelly and Lisa who were all so helpful and compassionate. A special thank you is extended to Dr. David Blair who provided many years of extra special care, showing great concern and even making home visits which meant so much to Carl. He is survived by his son, Robert (Peg), Victoria, B.C.; grandson, Dana (Jenny), Bend, Oregon; great granddaughter, Rowan; cousins, Muriel Murray, North River; Doug MacKenzie, Truro. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Margaret (King). Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 27th at 2pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, with Rev. Andrew Crowell officiating. Visitation and reception to follow the service. Interment in Robie Street Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of choice.
