PICTOU – Raymond Howard Pettipas, 64, of Wellington Street, Pictou, died October 17, 2009, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII Health Sciences Centre.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Clifford and Georgina Pettipas.
Raymond was employed at Michelin Tire for over 32 years and retired four years ago. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 16, Pictou for 34 years, where he was a past president and also held several positions during that time. He was also a member of the New Horizons Club and the Pictou Men’s Club. Since retiring he was active as a co-ordinator of the Pictou youth center and was also a member of the H.B. Room Dart League. He was a great father, grandfather, husband, and friend.
Raymond was much loved and will be greatly missed by his spouse, Marie ‘Margie’ (Poirier); sons, Garnet (Michelle), Rick (Lisa), both of Ontario; Greg (Shirley), Kevin (Stacey), and Tommy, all of Pictou; daughters: Trisha MacPhee, Judy (Darrell), and Debbie (John R.), all of Pictou; Amanda (Jason), Westville; Cathy (Rod), Halifax; 21 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and was an honorary grandfather to two others. He is also survived by sisters: Betty Pettipas, Margaret (Joe) Pettipas, and Rita, all of New Glasgow; Veronica (David) Winter, Lower Sackville; Mary (Gilbert) Conrad, Lunenburg; Kaye (David) Skanes, Port Hawkesbury; Theresa (Charlie) Myette, Afton; brothers: Bob (Ginnie), New Glasgow; Walter (Betty), Westville; Donnie (Kaye) Pitts, Tracadie.
Raymond was predeceased by brothers: Leonard, Bernard and Francis.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow in the Legion Hall.
