JONES, Arnold Roger - 74, of New Minas, passed away suddenly, Thursday, September 29, 2011 at home. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Harvey Wilson and Lena Margaret (Gilroy) Jones. He was a graduate of Amherst Business College and had been employed with the Bank of Commerce. Upon the death of his father, he returned to Springhill to operate the family business, Springhill Dairy. During this time he became the Mayor of Springhill. He left the position of Mayor to become the Welfare Officer for the town and later joined the Nova Scotia Department of Community Services as an auditor and held various positions over many years, retiring as Director of Financial Services. He was an adherent of the New Minas United Church, where he was active as Treasurer and was involved with the Men’s Club and Soup Luncheons. He enjoyed woodworking, cooking, baking cookies and latch hooking. He is survived by his wife, the former Evelyn M. “Peggy” Sanford; a daughter, Kimberlee J., Amherst; a brother, E. Wilson (Margibel), Pictou Island. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. There was no visitation, by request. A private family burial took place in the Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 3, 2011 in the New Minas United Church, Reverend Pix Butt officiating. Family flowers only, by request.
