With great sadness, Dave’s family announces his sudden passing at his home on October 14, 2009 at the age of 77. Born and raised in Corner Brook, he was the son of Arthur and Winifred Hammond. During his life David belonged to the Engineering Technicians Association, was a Captain with the Signal Corps of the Reserve Army and a member of Dalhousie’s Sigma Chi Fraternity. Early in his career he worked for Standard Paving before retiring as Director of Operations for the Halifax Water Commission. Predeceased by his parents and his brother Derek, he is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, June (Putnam), three sons Derek Arthur, Mark David (Heather MacCormac), and Gregory John (Elizabeth), his five grandchildren, Nicole, Renee, Alexander, Jamie and Lee, nephew, Keith Hammond and niece, Judy Caines. A memorial service was held Monday, October 19, 2009 at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive (Clayton Park) Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation (dmrf.ca).
