NEW GLASGOW – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marguerite R. (MacGregor) MacKinnon, of MacLean St., New Glasgow, on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at home.
Born November 24, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Max and Rosa Werder (of Switzerland and Montreal).
She was predeceased by her first husband John Heywood MacGregor and her second husband J.C. MacKinnon.
She is survived by her daughter Ann MacGregor-Strum, Halifax; grandchildren, Matthew Strum, Calgary; Alex Strum (Meaghan), Halifax; many cousins in Switzerland.
Marguerite was born and educated in Montreal. Her career was with Dominion Rubber which took her across Canada, the United States, the West Indies and Europe. Marguerite kept busy over the years with volunteer work, volunteering with the Aberdeen Hospital Auxiliary, IODE, local and provincial Council of Woman and Unit O of Trinity United Church. In latter years Marguerite would join Ann in Halifax to enjoy Symphony Nova Scotia and Neptune Theatre. Marguerite was known for her artistic ability, in particular her painting, needlepoint and designing and making her own Christmas cards. She said “I paint each one assuring it is a little different.” She was also a skier, golfer, gardener and sculptor.
The family want to thank her wonderful caregivers, Cookie, Mabel, Adele, Donna and especially Patty Wright who has been a friend as well as a caregiver to Marguerite for over 15 years, the Pictou County VON and Carol MacNutt.
There will be a visitation from 11:30-1 p.m. Friday, with a brief service at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jim Webber–Cook officiating, followed by a reception, all at her home, 345 MacLean Street, New Glasgow.
