It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our mother, loving companion, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law on Oct. 5, 2011, at home, surrounded by all who loved her.
Patsy is survived by her loving companion, Clarence MacKenzie; children, Darryl (Mary), Debbie Wadden (Frank), Patrice Gay (Jerry), Paulette Dimmer (John MacDonald), Bernadine Jeannotte (Marc), Helen Windsor (Johnny), Rodney (Nicky); brother, Jim Tobin; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard (Nardy) MacMullin, her parents, John and Cecilia Tobin, sisters, Geraldine Gordon MacIsaac, Helen Arsenault, brothers, John and Michael Tobin.
Patsy worked at Riga’s Spaghetti Shop before going to work for Cara Operations (Sydney Airport) until her retirement. She was always there in times of need, most famous for her goulash and lemon meringue pie. Her strong Catholic faith and the love of her family and friends gave her the strength to complete her journey home. If you had ever been to Patsy’s house, you would know that she had a special collection of clocks. Some that meowed, some that cuckoo-ed, some that chirped, some that rang. It wasn’t that she was obsessed with time, but what rather became a familiar trademark of her quirkiness and light-heartedness.
During her last days, the clock that hung right over her bed, that had once tolled the hours with a loud bell, began to doll and drone, as if it had been pushing itself as far as it could go before giving up. Patsy was just like this clock. And as the time ticks, we need not stress and worry about the slipping moments, but rather celebrate the birth of each new hour and laugh at the beauty of life, just as Patsy and her many crazy clocks.
Visitation will be today (Thursday, Oct. 6), from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass celebrating Patsy’s life will take place Friday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. in Holy Cross Church with Rev. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

I enjoyed our 30 years together, trips we took, our long drives for dinner or supper at the Goshen. Now that I think how much I loved you, my heart aches thinking I have to continue without you. I prayed in your ear before you passed on that he would take you to your heavenly rest and give you peace from your pain and suffering. I will continue to love you very, very, much.
