Peacefully and surrounded by his beloved family, at the Kings County Memorial Hospital in Montague on Thursday, October 6, 2011, of Joseph "Joe Ramie" MacKinnon of Southampton, age 87 years.
Survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara (MacAulay) and their children Gay (Joan), Southampton; Mary Irene (Stewart MacSwain), Truro; Allan (Becky), Southampton; Teresa (Bob Glover) Abney; Barbie (Robbie Thompson), Midgell; Paul (Lori Lawless), Russell, Ontario; and son-in-law Gerald Dykerman, Brookfield. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Mary MacMillan and Rita McKinnon and special family member Mary Lou Gallant. Grampie to Robert, Mark, Timmy, Mallory, Jocelyn, Elizabeth, Katie, Allan, Bradley, Charity, Matthew, Jeffrey, Sarah, Phillip, Matthew, Cameron, Hannah, Amanda, Emily, Benjamin and Annie and 11 great-grandchildren. Special uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by daughter, Joanne; parents, Ramie and Theresa; sisters, Mary (Bernard) Mossey, Sister Mary Irene, Bertha (Peter) MacAulay, Anna (Freddie) Larkin, Marion (Joe) MacDonald, Marie (Roch) Paquette; and brothers, Allan (Pat), Ronnie (Rita) and three deceased in infancy.
Joseph was known for the strength of his convictions, his love of politics and his belief in hard work; he was an example and an inspiration to all who were lucky enough to have sought his advise and friendship. Above all, though, he loved his wife Barb and his family with all his heart.
Resting at Ferguson's Montague Funeral Home until Monday at 10:15 a.m., then to St. Peter's Bay Roman Catholic Church for funeral mass at 11 a.m. Interment in the parish cemetery. Visitation: Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, if so desired, memorials to the Souris Hospital, the Kings County Memorial Hospital or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
