It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Alfred Graham Cadden Sr., on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009 at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford on November 18, 1941 Alfred was a son of the late Robert and Marion (Shepperd) Cadden. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who dedicated his whole life to taking care of his family, namely his pride and joy, his special son, Charles Paul and grandson, Gregory. Alfred was a member of Calvin United Church, New Waterford. He was employed with the Sydney Steel Plant for more than 33 years until his retirement and was a volunteer firefighter for over 25 years with the New Waterford Volunteer Fire Department.
Alfred enjoyed building fishing boats, cooking, and was known to be the best pie maker in Cape Breton.
Surviving are his wife, Violet (Wadden); daughter, Patricia Cadden –MacPhee, New Waterford; special son, Charles Paul, at home; brothers, Bob (Carol), Billy (Mary), Charlie (Kay), all of New Waterford; sister, Norma (Kenny) MacPhail, Kingston, ON; grandson, Gregory; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Alfred was predeceased by a daughter, Paula; son, Alfred Jr.; father and mother-in-law, Bill and Mary (Kennedy) Wadden; many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law as well as several other family members.
Visitation will be held Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. in Calvin United Church with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Burial will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens with a luncheon to follow at the New Waterford Volunteer Fire Department Hall. All are welcome.
Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of one’s choice.
