It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of a beautiful lady, Mae Devison, a lifelong resident of Georges River. At the age of 102, she passed away on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born July 27, 1909, in Georges River, Mae was the daughter of the late Hector and Annie (Day) Devison.
She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph parish, Bras d’Or. She worked as a housekeeper for many years for parishes throughout Nova Scotia, St. Patrick’s, Lochaber, N.S., St. Joseph’s, Bras d’Or, St. Joseph’s, Reserve Mines, St. Margaret’s, Grand Mira, and from where she retired St. Michael’s, Baddeck.
Mae was a kind, loving person, who was always grateful for anything that was done for her. There was always a heartfelt thank you with a big bright smile. Visitors were always welcomed and never left without a cup of tea and a lunch. She had a strong devotion to the Rosary and was always ready to say a prayer for anyone who asked or needed one.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mae is survived by her sister-in-law, Helen (Hector) Devison of Louisbourg; by four nephews and eight nieces, many grandnephews and grandnieces. As well, she is survived by her special grandnephew, Stephen O’Brian, and her special niece and goddaughter, Mae MacNeil.
Besides her parents, Mae was predeceased by sisters, Isabelle (Allan) Morrison, Glace Bay, Ellen ‘Nellie’ Devison, Georges River, Margaret (Bryan) Kiernan, Georges River, brothers, Mark, Leo, Andrew, Cleve, all of Georges River, Hector of Louisbourg.
Visitation for Mae will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Rev. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial in St. Joseph Parish Cemetery, Bras d’Or.
