It is with great sadness that the family of Leonard Morrison announce his passing on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011.
Leonard was the son of the late Abraham and Ruth (Dean) Morrison.
While born in the Pier in 1929, he was raised near Ashby Corner. He had a nearly 40-year career with Air Canada, ending as reservation manager in Sydney. He attended Sydney Academy where he played basketball. He then spent a year in Antigonish where he played basketball for St. FX with his friends Rudy Pace and Porgie Keough. Leonard also played on the varsity rugby team. He played with the famed Ashby Aces, the first Cape Breton team to win a Maritime Midget Title. He was a longtime active member of the Sydney YMCA. He was inducted into the Cape Breton Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the Pat Patterson coached Sydney Academy Basketball Team that won many Maritime titles. Leonard was a past president of the Lingan Golf and Country Club, where he was a 50-year member. Leonard and Joan travelled extensively in their Air Canada life having visited Barbados 38 times.
