It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Leonard Patrick Fahey, a loving husband, brother, and uncle, on Oct. 9, 2011.
Born in North Sydney, Lennie was the son of the late Patrick and Muriel (Jessome) Fahey of Sydney Mines.
Lennie is survived by his loving wife of over 41 years, Sarah Ann (MacMullin) Fahey; brothers, Patrick, Lewis (Maureen) and Gerard; sisters, Ella, Laura, Francis, Rita (Allan) Found, Ann (Michael) Ley; brothers-in-law, Michael (Diane) MacMullin and Leo (Rosemary) MacMullin; sisters-in-law, Joanne Fahey, Keitha Fahey, Elizabeth MacNeil and Margaret Ann Cann; mother-in-law, Marjorie MacMullin; and numerous nieces and nephews — “his dearly loved chosen children”.
He was predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Muriel (Jessome) Fahey, sister, Alice Butts, brothers, Billy and Michael, brothers-in-law Ernie Butts, Andre Mayeu, Michael Chiasson, Reid Tait, Donald MacNeil and Billy Cann; sister-in-law Minnie Fahey, niece and nephew, Madisson and Morgan Englert, nephews, Ryan Fahey and Christopher Cann, and father-in-law, Michael MacMullin.
Lennie was a devoted member of St. Pius X parish and embraced his faith. He was an Eucharistic minister, altar server, member of the Mens’ Club and parish council. He was a proud 4th-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Santa Maria Council, Sydney Mines.
Lennie’s love of people and community was evident in his many volunteer activities, including Sydney Mines Minor Hockey as a coach and referee, Kiwanis Ceilidh, Northside Golden K Club, Children’s Burn Camp and Meals on Wheels.
He was employed for 35 years by Canada Steamship Lines on the Great Lakes and always had a sailor’s twinkle in his eye.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, at Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Lennie’s life will take place Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at St. Pius X Church at 10 a.m. with Fr. Thomas John officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Northside General Hospital or Cape Breton Regional Hospital or any local food bank.
