It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Effie Burton, of Capstick, on Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at the Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney.
Born in Capstick on Dec. 3, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Alice (Kanary) Burton. She was a lifelong member of St. Margaret’s parish, St. Margaret’s Village.
Effie was a kind, loving person who loved company and made everyone feel welcome when they came to her home. Her favourite pastimes were playing cards and sitting on her deck looking out over the ocean in the summertime.
She is survived by her daughters, Caroline MacDougall, Sydney Mines and Paula (Russell) MacNeil, Florence; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, John Burton; her daughter, Alice (Burton) Capstick; her lifelong partner, Buddy Capstick; sisters, Carrie MacDougall, Margaret MacDonald and Josephine Burton and brothers, Clarence Burton and Johnnie Burton.
Effie’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Visitation for Effie Burton will be held in St. Margaret’s Parish Centre, St. Margaret’s Village, on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of her life will take place on Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Margaret’s Church, with Fr. Dan MacDonald officiating. The burial will be in the parish cemetery.
