Age 55, of Bedford, formerly of Bell Island, Newfoundland, passed away October 13, 2011 at the White Hills Long-Term Care, Hammonds Plains. Born in Bell Island, he was the son of Patricia (Fitzgerald) Hughes, St. John’s/Bell Island and the late Leonard Hughes. Gerry worked at ARC Industries in Kemptville, Ontario, for many years, and Sobeys in Bedford for several years. He loved bowling, playing soccer and socializing with friends and family. His bright smile will be missed by all those who were fortunate enough to have met him. He is survived by his siblings Elizabeth (Dave) Sheppard, Mount Pearl, NF; Mary (Frank) Halpin, Osoyoos, BC; John (Peggy) Hughes, Ottawa, On; Anita (John) Conohan, (Gerry’s guardians with whom he had lived for 20 years) Bedford, NS; Len (Stephanie) Hughes, Calgary, AB; Andrea (John) Molyneaux, Singapore; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister Patricia Ann. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Monday, October 17th, 2011 at 3 pm from St Ignatius RC Church , Bedford Highway, Father Pat Cosgrove officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be at a later date in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, St. John’s Newfoundland.
