Mary Carter (nee Finn) Carter

Mary Carter (nee Finn) Carter

Date de décès : 17 octobre 2011

December 29, 1927 - October 17, 2011. Mary passed away peacefully at the Ottawa Civic Hospital in her 84th year, after suffering a major stroke. She was predeceased by her son Ted, husband Henry, and sister Patricia. She will be lovingly remembered by her brothers: Edward, Thomas, Michael, and William; by her sisters-in-law: Dena and Helen; by her brother-in-law Lou McDonald; by her nephews and nieces and their spouses, children, and grandchildren; by her cousins and their families; and by the many friends and associates with whom she shared her life and work. As a nurse, Mary had a long, eventful, and productive life. After her initial training at St. Clare's Hospital in St. John’s, she served for several years in cottage hospitals and clinics in Newfoundland outports, and later in hospitals in Ottawa and Saskatoon. She also spent a year in Kentucky, learning and practising the techniques of midwifery. She made close friends among the doctors and other nurses wherever she served. After she and her husband Henry retired, they volunteered for foreign aid and relief efforts in other countries. They spent a few years on such projects in both Ghana and Peru, where Mary also made her nursing skills available to local hospitals. She is to be interred at the Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa, near her husband and son. To honour and commemorate Mary, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
