The death occurred at Stewart Memorial Hospital, Tyne Valley, Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011 of William Roy "Johnny" Johnston, veteran of the Second World War, of Freeland, formerly of Ottawa, Ont., aged 88. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 35 years and retired as a Master Warrant Officer. Born Dec. 3, 1922, son of the late Harry and Mabel (Irvine) Johnston. He is survived by his son William "Brent" Johnston (Darlene), Freeland and daughters Heather Susan Johnston and Cheryl Edith Coffman, Warrenton, NC. Grandfather of six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Brother of Lorne (Marion), Ottawa, Ont.; Shirley Turney, Kamloops, B.C. and Irvine (Gladys), Napanee. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Lorna, son Richard of Charleston, SC, brother Wendell, Cornwall, Ont., Sisters Rena Wooding, Ottawa and infant Christina Marie. Resting at Ferguson Tyne Valley Funeral Chapel with visiting hours Thursday 7 p.m. until the time of the Funeral service at 8 p.m. with Rev. Pamela Reidpath officiating. Comrades of the Ellerslie Royal Canadian Legion will hold a service of remembrance for their late comrade on Thursday evening at 6:45 p.m.
