It is with heavy hearts and great affection that we announce the death of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at the age of 99. A resident of Foyer Pere Fiset since April 2006.
Helen Delina ‘Nellie’ Gallant, of Foyer Pere Fiset Guest Home, Cheticamp, formerly of East Margaree died at the guest home.
Born in East Margaree, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin ‘Benny’ and Angelique (Blanchard) LeBlanc.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Church. An active member of CWL, the local Red Cross and other community organizations. A graduate of Normal College in 1929, she taught school for 28 and a half years. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by three sons, Alfred (Marlene), Sydney, Roger (Monique), Bras d’Or, Isidore, Cheticamp; two daughters, Rosita Gillis (Norman), Upper Margaree, Georgette Skinner (Robert), Westmount; sister-in-law, Theresa, East Margaree; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband, Lubin, daughter-in-law, Sylvia, six brothers, John Fred (Mary), Philias (Emma), Joseph (Cecile), Charlie (Marie), Edward, Arsene (Marie Rose), four sisters, Julia (Vincent) Chiasson, Marie Anne (Placide) Arsenault, Margaret (Arthur) Doucet, Annie Mae (Joseph) Cormier.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at St. Michael Parish Hall, East Margaree. Prayer vigil at 7 p.m. Funeral mass 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Church, East Margaree with Fr. Wade DeCoste officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to Foyer Pere Fiset or charity of choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cheticamp Funeral Services Ltd.
