ROY (LEBLANC) , MURIEL - 1947 - 2011 - It is with great sadness that after a long battle with cancer, Muriel Roy of Grand Barachois passed away at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Center, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, October 19th, 2011. Born in Moncton, NB, on September 24th, 1947, Muriel was the daughter of the late Edgar LeBlanc and Lina (née: Bastarache). Muriel is survived by her husband of 44 years, Paul Roy; her mother, Lina of Dieppe; her son, Martin and two precious granddaughters: Kassia and Brielle of Dieppe and her brother, Emile of Grand Barachois. She will also be missed by her aunts, uncles, many cousins as well as numerous friends. Muriel was predeceased by her father, Edgar, who died in 2006. Muriel was an entrepreneur who ran a business with her husband for over 40 years. In her youth, she taught figure skating, took piano lessons and was a model in the Moncton area for more than 20 years. She was also a television co-host for the Atlantic Lottery for over 12 years. Muriel enjoyed spending her winters in Florida, but she mostly loved spending quality time with her two adored granddaughters. Muriel was particularly proud of her participation in judging musical competitions in the Star Acadie competitions in Cap Pelé; the Maritime Idol competitions in the Moncton area and the Brighthouse Senior Talent Contests in the Tampa, Florida area for the past several years.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB, (857-1901), on Friday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm and also on Saturday from 9: 30 am until time of service. Funeral service will be celebrated from the Chartersville Funeral Chapel, Dieppe, NB on Saturday, October 22nd, 2011, at 10: 30 am. Interment in Notre-Dame-du-Calvaire Cemetery, Dieppe, NB.
Donations to the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont Hospital Foundation “Oncology or Palliative Care” or the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
