STAPLES, Annie Blanche “Nan Nan” – 71, Onslow Mountain, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, October 19, 2011, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born February 10, 1940, in Truro, she was a daughter of the late Lockard and Ruth (Crowe) Lynds. As a young woman, Ann worked at Bagnell’s Cleaners and Dizon’s Restaurant. She later went on to work at Trotters Restaurant, Bible Hill, Fletcher’s Restaurant and The Two Sisters Restaurant as a baker. She enjoyed watching Coronation Street and had a great love for pickling and baking – she was well known for her wonderful pies, bread and many other special treats. She took great pride in her herd of Jersey Cows; she milked them, sent the cream to the creamery and made her own butter. The butter she made was so yellow and rich that many thought she added dye to it. Above all, Ann was devoted to her family and friends. She always had time to lend a hand to anyone in need and made sure people were taken care of; she had a pure heart. Ann is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Leander Clarence; children, Donna Staples (formerly Berry), Onslow Mountain; Jenny (Michael) During, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Letasha Berry, Kandas Martin, Kristopher During; great granddaughter, Shyla Leandra Jordan, to whom she was affectionately known as “Nan Nan”; sisters, Dorothy Graham (Noah Perry), Swan Hill, Alberta; Helen (Ben) Weatherby, Bathurst, New Brunswick; Nellie (Arnold) Ruth, Onslow Mountain; brothers, Aubrey (Joyce) Lynds, William (Jean) Lynds, Freeman (Carol) Lynds, all of Onslow Mountain; former son-in-law, Bill Berry, Halifax; numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Ann’s family will receive friends from 2-4, 7-9 p.m., Friday, October 21, 2011, and where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, October 22, 2011.
