Roberge, Sidney Lucien

April 19, 1921 --- October 10, 2011


Our family is deeply saddened by the passing of our father, Sid Roberge in his 90th year at Lions Gate hospital, surrounded by family.

Sid was predeceased by his wife Verna, son Garry, and grand daughter Alison, as well as numerous brothers and sisters.

Sid is survived by three sons, Dennis (Donna) of West Vancouver, Alden of Squamish and Phil (Denice) of Squamish (Bamfield), and brother Maurice of Swan River Manitoba and daughter-in-law Marilyn of Winnipeg; as well as numerous extended family members and friends including 12 grand children and 10 great grand children.

Sid was born in Grandview, Manitoba in 1921. He grew up on a homestead during the ‘Roaring’ 20’s and endured the ‘Dirty’ 30’s, leaving school after grade eight to work in a saw mill his father managed. Like many young men of his generation, he joined the Canadian Army in 1939 and spent five years overseas during WW ll in both the Italian Campaigne and the Liberation of Holland.

After the war, he moved his family from Manitoba to the Interior of BC to continue his Sawmill work. In 1949, they moved to Langford on Vancouver Island where he became a Falling contractor. In 1969, he and his wife Verna spent four years at the old logging camp in Function Junction at Whistler. In 1973 he bought the existing Howe Sound Equipment and Rental business in Squamish, where he worked until his retirement in the mid 80’s.

Sid lived a good life with adventure and conviction. He truly loved his family and especially enjoyed his grand children in his later years. For his family and many friends, Sid will always be remembered for his story telling and his exceptionally good sense of humor. He enjoyed a good time and was never stuck for words. In his retirement years his morning routine always included coffee and stories with the gang at Tim Horton’s.

Our family wishes to thank the staff at Lynn Valley Care Centre for their excellent level of care and support over the past several years. Sid will always be remembered and sorely missed. A family gathering will be held to celebrate Sid’s life, sharing stories filled with love, tears and good humor.
