Father Edward Albert Weare (Father Simeon) of Kamloops passed away on October 17, 2011 at 83 years of age.
He is survived by his loving family Frances Kehler, Glen Weare, Cynthia Weare and Vance Weare and was predeceased by his parents, Gilbert and Winnie, brother Ronald and sister Margaret.
Father Ted Weare graduated with distinction from the Emmanuel St. Chad Seminary in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan subsequently spending 53 years in the priesthood.
He served as a priest in Quebec and Ontario, then in Claresholm, Alberta for 11 years. In Calgary he was the chaplain at the University of Alberta and at SAIT College.
Ted founded the Society of the Common Life, a Christian Community of Prayer. Later he had a parish in Nanaimo, then moved to Kamloops where he established the St. Nicholas Priory serving our area with a retreat center. After its closure, he continued his counselling ministry to street people, cancer victims, AA members and Hospice residents as well as conducting monthly quiet day retreats for Christian spiritual reflection.
He will be remembered for his generosity and open arms to everyone. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Father Ted's name to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice Home, 72 Whiteshield Cr., South, Kamloops, B.C. V2E 2S9.
Prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2011 at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of all Saints 1044 8th Street.
The Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of all Saints with Father Lawrence Farley and Father Mykola Sawchenko officiating. A wake for Father Ted will be announced at a later date.
