Allister William Ferguson
Ferguson, Allister William – 96, Truro, passed away at High Crest Nursing Home in Springhill in the early hours of October 23, 2011, after a short stay at the home. Allister was born in Beaut, Montana, the oldest child of the late Elizabeth Anne (Matheson) and George Hugh Ferguson. Allister moved as an infant with his parents to Balmoral, and grew up on the family farm at Brule Point. He later moved to Debert, where he met his wife Reta Willey Barnhill. They were married on May 9th, 1942, and raised six children on the family farm in Belmont. The family farm is currently run by Allister’s grandson. A member of the United Church, he attended Wesley United Church in Belmont as he raised his family, Scotsburn United Church while married to his second wife Jean, and Brunswick Street United Church in his later years while living in the Truro area. Allister was a hard working farmer who in his early years enjoyed exhibitions and showing his dairy cattle. He enjoyed watching boxing, and in his retirement years he liked traveling, dancing and fiddle music. He loved his family and provided many happy family gatherings where there was never a shortage of good food. He loved life and lived it the fullest. He enjoyed many family drives in his car, where the destination really didn’t matter, what did was the time spent with family and the meal that would finish the drive. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work and many good friends from the three communities that he lived in.
