Elizabeth (Betty) Nieminen

After a challenging past two years Betty Nieminen of Abbey, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on 29th July, 2011. She was dearly loved by all her family who were either with her or thinking of her during her last days and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter Doris Blodgett (Harold) of Abbey, her son Gary Nieminen
(Joyce) of Regina. Granddaughters’ : Shelley Scott ( Clem ) of Medicine Hat, Lisa Laboucane(Cory) of Coldstream, BC, Krystal Hodge ( Kirk) of Olds, Alberta, Heather Hartney ( Desmond) of Regina, and Katie Nieminen of Regina. She will also be missed by her Great grandchildren: Kelsey and Andy Scott of Medicine Hat, Anikka, Lily and Hudson Hodge of Olds, Alberta, brother Peter Krismer ( Belfair, Washington), sister-in-law Esther Dahl (Swift Current), sister-in-law Wilda Sullivan (California), sister-in-law Ev Krismer (Regina), and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Andrew Eero Nieminen (April 2010) to whom she was married for 66 years, a daughter Marnie Joy Nieminen ( 1955) , her mother and father Myrtle and Peter Krismer, brothers Dick Krismer, Bob Krismer, Bill Krismer, and sister Elaine Thompson (Krismer), brother-in-law Ernie Thompson, Doris Willness ( Krismer),
brother-in -law Pat Sullivan (Nieminen), and mother and father-in-law Annie and Niilo Nieminen.

Betty was a partner with Andrew in a mixed farming operation in the RM of Miry Creek for over 60 years prior to retiring to live in a new home in Abbey in 1982. She was an avid gardener and loving homemaker, who took the time for family vacations camping, travelling, curling and golfing. She was very interested in politics, local and world affairs, health, education, family genealogy, and art (oil painting). After high school she attended Normal School and taught for a short period.

A private family interment will be held at Abbey Community Cemetery on Saturday, November 5, 2011. A Celebration of Life, Community Reception, will be held at the Abbey Community Hall at 2:30 to 4:00 PM following the private family internment. All friends and acquaintances are invited to the Community reception for refreshments, conversation and sharing of memories.

The family wishes to thank all caregivers at the Prairie Pioneer Lodge in Swift Current and the Prairie Care Centre in Cabri, Saskatchewan for their care and attention to our mother, grandmother and great grandmother Betty Nieminen.

In lieu of flowers, those who may wish to make a donation in memory of Betty Nieminen are encouraged to direct their donation to the Canadian Alzheimer Society (Saskatchewan Chapter) or other charity of choice.
