Thomas N. Herney, 66 of 5003 Shore Rd. Eskasoni, died peacefully Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Noel P. and Julia (Paul) Herney.
He was a member of Holy Family parish, Eskasoni. Tom was a medical driver for 10 years. He was a carpenter by trade and a cabinet maker.
Besides his wife, the former Hazel Cremo, he is survived by his daughter, Melinda; granddaughters, Julianna (Louie); Keeley-Shaye, Keyanna, Kellee-Mazey; his one and only great-granddaughter, Carley; one brother Michael; three sisters, Louise (Andrew) Johnson, Janet Herney, Linda Herney, all of Eskasoni. Also surviving are godchildren, Glynis Sylliboy, Elizabeth Cremo-Oakley, Roderick Johnson Jr., Noel Elias Herney, Kirk Peck Sr., Layla Paul, Nancy Mae Paul, Sherman Cremo; nieces, nephews and special friends, Auriel, Cady, 'Ding' and John Boy.
He was predeceased by brothers, Angus, Roderick, Randell, John, Noel J. Herney, infant brother, Peter Joseph; sister, Mary Catherine (Roddie) Johnson and special son-in-law, Ryan L. Toney.
Visitation for Mr. Herney will take place Saturday, Oct. 29 after 7 p.m. at the family residence 5003 Shore Rd. Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church with Rev. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
