Linda Geraldine (King) Wheaton
March 24, 1951-October 18, 2011
Woodpoint, N.B. – Confident in her faith and surrounded by the love of her family and close friend, Linda G. Wheaton slipped gently into eternity on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at the Sackville Memorial Hospital. Linda went to be with her Lord, whom she trusted with unwavering strength, following a courageous battle with cancer. Linda was 60 years of age. Born in Sackville, N.B., on March 24, 1951, she was the daughter of Norma (Read) King and the late Adrian King.
Linda was very faithful to her church and was an encouragement and strength to others who were fighting the same battle as she was, always putting others first in spite of her own sickness. She was a highly respected employee of Mount Allison University for 30 years, working as Secretary to the President, as well as Secretary to the Board of Regents. Linda was a loving mother to her son Michael, whom she loved more than anything. She loved spending time with her great-niece Adrianna and was especially grateful for her close and special friends who stood by her until the end. Linda was thankful for everyone who helped her and who were there for her over the years. Her family and friends meant the world to her.
Linda will be sadly missed, but forever loved by her son, Michael Rhodes (Janice Mah); her mother, Norma King; brother, Brian King; sister, Marlene (Wilbur) Read; uncle, Elliott (Alice) King; two nieces, Arienne King and Melanie Read; nephew, Kirk Read; special great-niece, Adrianna; three sisters-in-law, Mary King, Simmone Lerette and Debbie Wheaton; two step-daughters, Sharon McLeod and Sheila Brajkovic; four step-grandchildren, Justin, Ashley, Tanya and Kari and several cousins.
Linda considered herself to be fortunate to have had two husbands who loved her in her life. She was pre-deceased by her first husband, Charles Rhodes, and by her second husband, Wayne Wheaton; father, Adrian King; brother Austin King; Aunt, Sylvia Ison and by her grandparents, Clarence and Sarah King.
Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell's Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). The family received visitors at the funeral home on Thursday, October 20, 2011, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Linda’s funeral service was held from the Main Street Baptist Church on Friday, October 21, 2011, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Ryan Skaling officiating. A private family burial took place in the Sackville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Linda may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Woodpoint Baptist Church, SPCA or to the charity of one's choice. www.campbellsfuneralhome.com
