Melvin Boutilier passed away peacefully on Oct. 28, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital after a brief illness with his family by his side.
Born in Little Pond, he was the son of the late Ralph and Elizabeth (Jessome) Boutilier.
He served in the Merchant Navy in his younger years and then worked as a stevedore at the waterfront in Toronto. He then returned to Cape Breton in 1974 and worked in construction until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Helen (MacIntosh); his sons, Kevin, Kirk (Heather) and Todd; six grandchildren; his son, Allan and daughter Sharon from a previous marriage. Also surviving are his brothers, Roy, Reg and Gordon; his sisters, Marie, Leona, Eunice, Violet and Fran.
He was predeceased by his son, Lorne, an infant son, Bernard, sisters, Romona and Annabelle, and brothers, Delaney and Bernard.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen’s Church, Florence, with Fr. Verne Boutilier officiating. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Bras d’Or. Reception to follow in St. Joseph’s Church Hall, Bras d’Or.
