Lieu de naissance : SYDNEY, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Lieu de décès : SYDNEY, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 29 octobre 2011
It is with broken hearts that Sandra, Anne, and Dawn announce the passing of their dear mother, Margaret ‘Peggy’ Buchanan, the best mother in the world. Momma passed away peacefully in her sleep at the beautiful An Cala unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Oct. 29, 2011. Her last days were filled with much love and laughter, with her family and closest friends by her side.
Born in Sydney, Peggy was the eldest child of the late Horace and Annie ‘Nan’ (Johnson) Jefferson.
She spent a great deal of her youth in Dutch Brook.
She was a lifetime member of St. Andrew’s United Church. As a teenager, she was a proud bagpiper in the Sydney Girls’ Pipe Band and a member of the MacDonald 100 Pipe Band, taking part in the inaugural crossing of the Canso Causeway in 1955. Peggy worked varied jobs over the years, working to give her girls the little extra things in life, spending most of her career with the Sydney/CBRM Police Department.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Jeannette, in infancy.
She is leaving behind three daughters, (her greatest accomplishment), Sandra (Bill) Wolf, Australia, Anne, Lower Sackville, and Dawn (Philip) Andrews, Bangor, Maine; as well as two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Victoria Andrews. She is also survived by one sister, Sharon Ball, Kitchener, Ont; and two brothers, Bill Jefferson, Coxheath, and Ed ‘Gunka’ (Sandra) Jefferson, Saint John, N.B. She will also be dearly missed by her best friends, Catherine and Heather.
Cremation has taken place. A thanksgiving memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at St. Andrew’s United Church, 40 Bentinck St., Sydney. Reception to follow at the church hall. A private interment will take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
