Cecile Powaschuk (nee St-Jean), 1933-2011. On Thursday, October 20, 2011, Cecile passed away peacefully in Regina, SK at the age of 78 years. Cecile was born in Val Marie, SK in 1933. she grew up and attended school in Forget, Saskatchewan. After graduation, she moved to Regina where she worked at Eaton's for three years. She married James Powaschuk in 1957 and they moved to Swift Current where she raised her family and resided until her passing. Profoundly grounded in her faith, Cecile was always concerned for the well-being of the less fortunate in the community and she always had a good will box on the go. She cherished her children and grand-children most of all and took great pride in their accomplishments. She is survived by her husband James and her sons Anthony, Michael, Daniel (Line Mercier) and Christopher (Sylvie Monette); her beloved grand-children, Matthew, Sacha, Eric, Scott, Angie and Trevor and great-grand children Shantelle, Jessie, Tyler, David, Emma, Olivia and Austin; her brother Gerry and sisters Yvonne (Walter) and Janet as well as extended family members and numerous friends. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the Alpine Church of God, 925 2nd Avenue SE, Swift Current. Rev. Yurij Lazurko and Pastor Alex Allen conducted the service. The organist was Sharon Penny, soloist Eva Folks, eugolists Danny and Tony Powaschuk, tributes by Grace Baiton and Ethel Gilkinson, and her two grandsons Matthew and Sacha Powaschuk were the urn bearers. The interment was at Mount Pleasant Burial Park in Swift Current. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Cecile's memory.
