Roy passed away in hospice during the early morning of October 30, 2011 at the age of 78 years.
He was the loving husband to Yvonne to whom he was married for 56 years. They have four sons, Kenneth (Susan); Ted (Annie); Patrick (Lisa); Gordon (Karen) and one daughter Jackie (Gordon) along with 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Roy was born in Vancouver, B.C., the oldest son of two children born to Theodore and Gladys Salter.
Roy worked for B.C. Telephone Company for 34 years in various locations including Vancouver, Prince George and Victoria retiring as a supervisor in Prince George in 1989.
Roy was an ardent fly fisherman, tying his own flies and teaching his four sons and his wife to love fly fishing as he did. He loved going to the Queen Charlotte Islands to fish for coho, steelhead and pinks and spent many fall seasons there. He loved the fishing lakes in the Kamloops area and decided to retire here for that reason.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Roy dedicated himself to years of service in the church, holding many key positions and loved serving the Lord. He was a caring and loving leader, teacher and friend to many.
A Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2165 Parkcrest Avenue in Kamloops, on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery with a luncheon reception afterwards at the church, where we can celebrate Roy's life together as family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Kamloops Hospice Association would be appreciated.
