The death of Denny Clarke, age 79, of Collingwood, formerly of Springhill, occurred at the Cedarstone Nursing Home, Truro on Saturday, October 24, 2009.

Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late William and Carrie (Hannon) Clarke.

A grocer, he operated D E Clarke's Grocery on Herrett Road, Springhill for over 30 years. An active person, he was a life member of the Lion's Club, former councilor with Cumberland Co and the Town of Springhill. Very involved in provincial politics he was an active member of the Conservative Party of NS.

Denny will be sadly missed by his wife, Joyce (Ford) (Bishop); 3 sons, Terry (Sandra), John (Donna) and Scott (Jean); a daughter, Debby (Brian Forbes); 8 grandchildren; 2 step-sons, Paul (Jennifer) and Jack (Donna) Bishop; a step-daughter, Wendy (Richard) Densmore; 4 step grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Isabel (MacPherson) and 8 brothers and sisters.

Denny's remains have been entrusted into the care of the A.H. Brown Funeral Service, Springhill (902-597-2361) from where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 2 pm, Rev. Ruth Gamble officiating. Interment in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill. Denny's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
