It is with great sadness and heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Rose Lydia McDonald, 83, on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born March 6, 1928, in Big Pond, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Walter and Helen Lydia (McPhee) Butts.
She was a member of Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay. Rose was very family orientated and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to bake and cook, especially baking cookies for the neighbourhood children. Rose enjoyed car trips to Mira and Port Morien. She also loved puzzle books, doing laundry and her precious dog Goldie.
She is survived by daughters, Norma McDonald and Toni Wilson (P.J), both of Glace Bay; son, William (Sharon), Grand Cache, Alta.; brother, Neil Butts (Marie), Glace Bay; nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by husband, Roy Anthony McDonald (2001), daughter, Beverly Coady, sister, Mary Kelly, Mary Ellen Morrison, Bridget Radkey, brothers, Fred ‘Bucky’, Tom.
Visitation will be held Friday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J.McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Norman MacPhee is Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay, followed by interment in St. Anne’s Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy for Rose, memorial donations in her memory may be made to Palliative Care Society or the Canadian Alzheimer’s Foundation.
