It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Genevieve Louise Alice MacEachern, age 83, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Georges River, Genevieve was the daughter of the late Arthur Embree and Beatrice (Dearing) Newman. She was a devoted member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney and a longtime member of the church choir and UCW. Gene was always on hand to attend to the kitchen duties for many of the church functions. She was also a long time member of Tops organization.
She is survived by her seven children, her sons, Rhindress ‘Rhiney’ (Marie), Alan (Kim), Lloyd (Darlene), all of North Sydney, Brian (Bonnie), Chilliwack, Scott (Loretta), North Sydney and her daughters, Louise MacEachern, Georges River and Shirley Wilson, North Sydney; her 10 grandchildren, Rhiney Jr., Kelly, Lenny, Virginia, Victoria, Samantha, Kaitlyn, Shelley, Dawn Marie and Scottie; six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Russell (Marina) Newman, North Sydney and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Rhindress MacEachern; one son, Leonard MacEachern; three sisters, Grace Brown, Viola Walker, Marie Bonnar; three brothers, Max, Arthur and Barsley Newman.
The family wish to extend special thanks to Marina Newman and Lorraine Phalen, for being there when needed and the wonderful care given to Genevieve.
A private family visitation for Genevieve will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Matthew Wesley United Church with Rev. David Luker officiating. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
