MacINNIS, Olla — The children of Olla MacInnis (Stewart) wish to announce the peaceful passing of their mother on Saturday, October 29 at The Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth. Born August 30, 1915 to the late Evans and Margaret (Brown) Stewart, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald, her son, Leonard; and her siblings, Elsie, Jean,Verna, Bryden, Robert, Elmer, Byron and Owen. Olla is survived by her children, Ronald (Faye), Jean (Joe Doucette), David (Chalene), Linda, and her daughter-in-law, Joyce A. MacInnis. She is also survived by grandchildren, Karen Moore, Shelley (Tim Marsh), Vicki (Tim Hartenhof), Peter (Krista) MacInnis, Dwight (Monique) MacInnis, Marie (Jim Newcombe), John-Paul (Tanya) Doucette, Arlene (Carl Kletke), Bronwyn (Trevor Lawley) and David MacInnis (Holly Vincent), and by step-grandchildren, Gary Johnson, Wayne Johnson and Kim Sanford. She is also survived by great grandchildren, Jessica Moore, Rebecca (Trevor Levy), Madeline Hartenhof, Tyler MacInnis, Austin and Ethan MacInnis, Julia and Sarah Newcombe, James and Simon Doucette and Aunaleigh MacInnis; great-great grandsons, Hayden and Charlie Levy; and by step great grandchildren, Ben and Andrew Johnson, Steven and Jill Sanford, Shaun, Kristen and Taryn Johnson, Tyler, Peter and Craig Marsh and step great-great grandsons, Owen and Ellis Sanford, Nate and Mason Johnson, Austin Levy and step great-great granddaughter, Abby Johnson. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Frena (Harley) Harvie and Verna Harvey; brother-in-law, Keith (Joyce) MacInnis, and many loved nieces and nephews. Raised a country girl on Stewart Hill in Upper Musquodoboit, Mum had a life-long love affair with nature and all its beauty. She loved to be outside, by the ocean watching and listening to the waves and seagulls, walking in the fields and woods picking berries, collecting wildflowers and ferns which she quickly could turn into the most beautiful of bouquets. She enjoyed gazing at the sky, finding pictures in the clouds by day and the stars at night. Like many of her siblings she was an avid reader of good literature, both novels and poetry. Well into her 95th year she could still recite verse after verse of poetry memorized in her youth. After finishing school she attended Normal College in Truro and then taught in various places in Nova Scotia before settling in Hantsport to raise her family. As her family grew Mum did what mothers of the day did, she faithfully attended her church and all this entailed. She was a life member of the United Church Women. She was a member of the Home and School, and was involved in whatever organizations her children attended. As years went by she became a beloved Grammie, Meme, and Gray to her many grandchildren and then great grandchildren. Mum was loved dearly by them all. Rest in peace Mum. You are home now. A very special thank you to “The Meadowview Ladies” of The Elms. We cannot express in words the gratitude for the care Mum has received for the past two and a half years. She was truly blessed to have you all. Arrangements for cremation were entrusted to Lohnes-DeMont Funeral and Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family received visitors 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, November 2. A celebration of Olla’s life took place 2 p.m. Thursday, November 3 in St. James United Church, 17 Prince Street, Hantsport, Rev. Heather MacDougall officiating.
