75, passed away at the Prince Edward Palliative Care Unit in Charlottetown, P.E.l., on October 29, 2011.
Born July 3, 1936, he is the son of the late Emmett C. Gavin and Gladys A. (Brown) of P.E.I. He is survived by his son Martin, Nanaimo; and daughter Carrie, Vancouver, BC; and his former wife Jean Millington of Dartmouth. Also survived by his brother Jack Gavin, Florida; sisters Shirley (Jack) Greenough and Betty Brokenshire, Dartmouth; Fran Trego, Virginia; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his sister Anna, two sons at infancy, sister-in-law Maxine Gavin and Bob Trego.
Lou attended Saint Peter's School in Dartmouth until deciding to enter the Canadian Air Force in 1953, transferring to the Royal Canadian Army in 1958, where he served his country a total of 23 years and 6 months. After his military service, he then went on to work as a Radiation Technologist at the Prince Edward and Queen Elizabeth Hospitals in Charlottetown, P.E.l., over many years.
Lou lived life to the fullest. He was a gifted artist, painting true to life portraits, which are scattered throughout P.E.l, Atlantic and Western Canada and Europe. He was also a talented musician, ably impersonating Elvis and capably interpreting many other musical genres. Always cherishing his roots, Lou had a great love of family. He will be missed for his jokes and laughter, his jam sessions, his artistic sensibilities and the wonderful paintings that were yet to be produced.
A memorial service will be held at Dawson Funeral Home, Crapaud, P.E.l., on November 12 at 11 a.m.
