Freda was born on January 16th, 1932 in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan to Richard and Anelie Wegh. When she was five years old, the family moved to Alberta. Freda was raised on a farm seven miles south of Wanham, AB. Freda loved the family farm. Freda also had a great love for cats. She always had at least one cat, even in her later years, until not allowed cats when staying in a seniors’ facility.
At the age of 18 Freda applied to and was accepted at Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary for nurses training. Before she left for training, Ben Hauser, an oil agent from the local Treasury Branch asked Freda to come work in his office; and the rest is history. Ben and Freda were married on March18th, 1951. They had four children Janice, Valerie, Rick and Melody. In 1961 the family moved to BC spending their first year at East Pine, then on to the property they accrued 10 miles west of Chetwynd. Ben and Freda resided in this home until 2001, when they decided to sell their house and move into a senior’s unit in Chetwynd. In 2005 Freda along with her daughter Melody and Melody’s family, moved to Dawson Creek, BC to be closer to Ben who was living at Rotary Manor.
Freda, Gram, as she was known to everyone, will be remembered for her kind gentle ways. She loved to play bingo, work on crosswords as well as play dice and card games with her grandchildren.
Freda was predeceased by her husband Ben, daughter Janice, parents Richard and Amelie Wegh, sister Claudia and brother Richard.
Freda is survived by her daughters Valerie and Melody, son Rick (Laura), nine grandchildren (Rick, Ray, Merlyn, Trevor, Travis, Danielle, Megan, Curtis and Randi), 5 great grandchildren (Rian-Anne, Troy, Lily, Erick and Kori) and sister-in-law Clara.
Freda passed away August 25th, 2011 at the age of 79.
