Sgt. John Victor Fardy (Retired, CD), of Kamloops, B.C. passed away November 7, 2011 at Royal Inland Hospital, with his family at his side.
John left us on his 65th birthday; for six months he fought with dignity and courage, the fear, pain and confusion associated with lung cancer.
Born in Brigus, NL, he grew up in a large family and left home at age 18 to join the Canadian Armed Forces. In his career of 24 years working as an R.C.E.M.E, radar technician, he served in many areas of Canada as well as Germany. After his military retirement, he worked for 24 years at Kamloops Aviation Fuels Ltd.
John is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carolynne, his children; son, Greg Fardy (Tanja) of Winnipeg, MB, and daughter, Corrine (Mike) Kehler of Kamloops, BC.
John's pride and joy were his grandchildren and left to cherish his memory are Morgan Fardy, Danielle Stupar (Jon Stewart), Tristan, Emma, Jaymz and Chris Kehler; also great grandson Grayson Stupar.
Remembering their brother are his siblings; Pat, Ron (Joyce), Bernard (Brenda), Leonard, Greg (Cynthia), Andrew, Ellen, Mary (Roy), Victor (Roxanne), Joe (Heather), Mena (Dave); also in-laws Ivan (Margaret) Purdy, Mavis (Gerry) Erker, Bette (Del) Gray, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues and friends.
John was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Helen Fardy, brother Larry Fardy, father and mother in-law, Henry and Elizabeth Purdy, sisters-in-law, Marie (Pat) Fardy and Lori Nichol and nephew Keith Erker.
John was an avid stamp collector and spent many happy hours involved with his hobby; he also loved books, country music and having fun. His Irish-Newfoundland heritage was evident in his accent, sense of humour and sharp wit.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Malan, staff at Royal Inland Hospital, and especially nurse Clint on 6 North for their care, compassion and support during this difficult time. Thanks also to family, friends and colleagues who have supported us by their actions and words.
Though he traveled far and wide in his life, John never truly left his "Newfie" roots and his attachment to "The Rock". Cremation has taken place; a memorial service will be held in Brigus, NL at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation.

blow on your back"
