Trenton - David Archibald Morton, age 88, of Fifth St., Trenton, passed away Friday, November 11, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Born in Trenton, he was a son of the late Bliss and Janet (Wilson) Morton. He was retired from Trenton Works. He was a member of First United Church for most of his life where he sang in the choir and was on the Board of Managers. He served with the Princess Louise 8th NB Hussars, 5th Canadian Armed Regiment. He travelled overseas on the Queen Mary to England and served in North Africa, Italy, France, Belgium and Holland. Following the War, he served in Germany in the Occupational Army. When he returned to Halifax from the War, he was surprised to see his father waiting for him. He heard his dad say, “There he is now”. We imagine a similar meeting today. For many years, he served in the New Glasgow Militia as a Staff Sergeant. Dad enjoyed his golf, garden, singing and loved his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Vivian (Reynolds), Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou; daughters: Donna Peart, Trenton; Heather (Joe) Terris, Trenton; sons: Allen (Judy) Morton, Little Harbour; Stephen (Mary) Morton, Caribou; Glenn (Janet) Morton, New Glasgow; grandchildren: Greg, Christopher, Adam, Aaron, Katherine, Ashley, Tom, Natalie, David and Connor; 8 great grandchildren; special niece Janet Ross; chosen sister Eleanor (Link) Hubbard. He was predeceased by sisters: Elizabeth (Calvin) Ross, Dora and Esther in infancy; brother Hunter (Irene) Morton and son-in-law Bill Peart. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Saturday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, Trenton. Funeral service 1:30 pm Sunday in the First United Church, Trenton with Rev. Dr. Ken MacLeod officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to First United Church or C.H.A.D. Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 Trenton will meet at the funeral home at 6:30 pm Saturday to conduct their service.
