Rene Vincent Bernard, 41, of 17 Churchloop Rd., Wagmatcook, passed away peacefully at home, Nov. 11, 2011.
Born in Baddeck, N.S., he was the son of Susan (Simon) Bernard and late David Bernard.
Rene was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was employed with the WEAP program in Wagmatcook every spring and summer. Rene always greeted others with a smile in a gentle manner that will be missed by all his family and friends.
He is survived by his mother, Susan Bernard; his children, Zachary Pierro, Wagmatcook, and Katrina Pictou, Afton; grandchildren, Zederick and Parishova Pierro-Roberts, Wagmatcook; brother, Robert Simon, at home; sisters, Jessie Christmas, Membertou, Mary Simon, Sydney, Patty Simon, Wagmatcook, Jackie (Phil) Drinnan, Aberdeen. He is also survived by his godchildren, Lavena Paul, Membertou, Madison Bernard and Bryson Isadore, Wagmatcook; several aunts, two uncles and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his father, he predeceased by brothers, John Andrew Simon, Michael Pierro, brother-in-law, Roger Christmas Sr., nephew, Cyrus Peck, grandparents, Mary Ellen and Andrew Simon and Frank and Mary Susan Bernard.
Visitation will begin Tuesday at 6 p.m., Nov. 15, 2011, at the Blessed Kateri Tekawitha Centre. The funeral mass will be Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Blessed Kateri Tekawitha Church with Fr. Robert MacNeil officiating. Burial will be at the Queen of the World Cemetery. After the service a feast and salit’e will follow at the Wagmatcook Culture Centre.
