NAYLOR, JEAN PEARSON - Jean Naylor, 64 years old, of Brookside, Halifax County, N.S. died peacefully with her husband at her side at the Halifax Infirmary on November 12, 2011. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, to Harold and Jean (Allaby) Pearson, she attended schools in Saint John and Rothesay. Early work included Dalhousie University (President's Office), CHNS Radio (copywriter) and the law firm of Palmer-O'Connell in Saint John (Secretary to George O'Connell). In 1970 she went to Great Britain and spent two years travelling and working. She met and married her husband, Edwin, in London (1972). They travelled in Europe together before returning to Saint John where Jean was employed with the law firm of Clarke-Drummie (secretary to Thomas Drummie). In 1973 Jean and Edwin moved to Halifax and she worked for the City of Halifax (City Solicitor's Office) until 1981, when she stayed home to look after their young son and expected daughter. The following years she was involved with the local PTA, Scouts Canada Group Committee,volunteered for the Brookside Junior High School and the IWK Auxiliary (of which she was a member). Jean returned to paid employment in 1993 for the Province of Nova Scotia with the Department of Health (Drug Dependency), and later with the Department of Justice (Court of Appeal from 1995 to retirement). Jean was a beautiful, kind, warm wife and mother who you would never hear complain even during various illnesses she so bravely endured later in life. Her life was filled with much love and laughter from family and her many friends. She loved to travel and returned to Europe and the Carribean many times with Edwin and their two children. She was a great Coronation Street fan and loved chocolate, gardening, baking, her two cats and, above all, a good book. She is survived by her husband Edwin Naylor, son Simon (Cheryl) and daughter Ainsley and several cousins, nephews and nieces. The family would like to express appreciation and thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Halifax Infirmary (especially Dr. Bussey) who worked so hard in assisting Jean during the past few weeks and made her final days comfortable and peaceful. Also special thanks to the staff at the QE transplant clinic (especially Dr. Kiberd) who provided great care and attention to Jean over the past few years. Jean's body has been donated to Dalhousie University Dept. of Medicine.
There will be a Life Celebration with reception to follow at J.A. Snow Funeral Home on Lacewood Drive, Clayton Park Halifax, (902) 455-0531 on Sunday, November 20, 2011, 2:00 pm.
