Ellen Marie (Gillis) MacNeil
Funeral service for the late Ellen MacNeil was held on October 22, 2011. A Celebration of Life Mass was held at St. Columba Church, Iona, with internment in Sacred Heart Cemetery, MacKinnon Harbour.
The family would like to thank Fr. Ray Huntley for his kind words and prayers at Mom’s visitation; Fr. Charles Donovan, the celebrant of the Mass; Fr. Hugh MacNeil for his heartfelt homily; and to Frs. Fred Morley, Everett MacDow, Sandy MacNeil and Ajit for con-celebrating the service.
Thanks to Janet (Gillis) MacKinnon and St. Columba Choir and to all Mom’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who took part in the music and celebration of the Mass. Special thanks to Piper Courtney MacPherson, the Eucharistic ministers, altar servers, hospitality ministers, and the active and honorary pall bearers.
The family wishes to extend our sincere appreciation and thanks to our families, friends and neighbours who helped out in any way and to the many people who came from near and far to attend Mom’s visitation and funeral service.
Many thanks for your Mass cards, enrolments, sympathy cards, emails, monetary gifts, donations to the Alderwood Working Council, and flowers. Thank you to the ladies of the Parish who looked after these. To those who brought food to our homes, thank you.
Special thanks to the St. Columba CWL who served lunch during the visitation, supper to the family and lunch for the reception after the funeral. To all who so generously brought food to the Parish Centre to make the reception so meaningful, thank you.
Heartfelt thank you to Mom’s doctors who took such good care of her over the years, to Alderwood Home and Staff for their loving care, to daughter, Gladys, for her medical expertise, to daughter-in-law, Michelle, who was always there to give Mom such loving comfort in Jamesville when she needed extra support.
Special thanks to the many friends who gave Mom transportation to and from community social events that helped her enjoy her retirement both in Baddeck and Red Point.
Thanks to Donald Andrew and his helpers for opening and closing her grave and to David and Shawn Dunlop for their professionalism, as always, it was appreciated by the family.
Mom, you will live forever in our hearts and we will love you always.
