Peacefully at his late residence on Sunday, November 1, 2009, of John \"Gerald\" Best of Tryon, age 98 years.
Loving husband of Beryl (Johnston, Craswell) Best and his late wife, Luella (Lund). Dear father of David (Heather), Marilyn (Sheldon) Myers, and Marie. Grampy to Greg Best, Brian (Connie) Best, Dale (Liane) Best, Randy (Levita) Myers, Donna Myers, Dawn Campbell, Cindy (Darcy) Smith and Kelly Campbell. Poppy to Christine (Micah) Fenton, Laura, Lois and Katelyn Craswell. Great-grandfather to Morgan, Brianna, Jacqueline, Emma, Hannah, Madelyn; and step great- grandfather to Zachery and Paige. Survived by sister, Alice Barnes, Williamsburg, Virginia; sisters-in-law, Wanda Best, Lois Johnston, Ione Kelly; and step daughter-in-law, Lynn Craswell-Nicholson. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Lucy (nee MacDonald) Best; brothers, Norman and Kenneth Best; brother-in-law, Larry Barnes; and stepson, John David Craswell.
Resting at the Dawson Funeral Home, Crapaud, for visitation on Tuesday, November 3, from 6-9 p.m. A masonic service will follow at 9 p.m.
Funeral service from South Shore United Church, Tryon, on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
