Catherine \'Kay\' Power

Lieu de naissance : Mill Creek, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada

Lieu de décès : Alder Point, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 1er novembre 2009

Catherine Arlene (Power) Hodder, 55, of Alder Point passed away on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Known to those who loved her simply as Kay, she was born in Mill Creek, Point Aconi, to proud parents Daniel ‘Donnie’ Power and Geraldine ‘Gerri’ Devoe. She was delivered by her grandmother (midwife) Anna Devoe. Kay was the first of six children and being the eldest took on the role of caretaker early in life.
She worked at a variety of jobs over the years, motivated in part to provide for her infant son when widowed at the tender age of 18. These included the Humpty Dumpty Factory, Neilson’s Chocolate Factory, The Continental Can Company, and Nickerson’s Fish Plant.
The last 4 1⁄2 years of her life were her most treasured because of being spent with her grandson Elijah, the light of her life.
A devoted mother, grandmother and family member, her family was everything to Kay. A truly unique person; a young woman, but an old soul. Poor of health, but strong of will and determination, Kay was special. Slow to anger, quick to forgive; one to always look for the good in everyone, despite their many flaws. One to offer support when in fact she could have used it herself. One to never complain, despite the multiple reasons she could have. One who never judged or criticized. A kinder, loving person there was not.
Kay is survived by her parents, Daniel and Geraldine Power, Alder Point; her two adoring children, son, Devon (Darren) Power, Sydney, and daughter, Angela Hodder, North Sydney, and her pride and joy, grandson, Elijah. Also left to mourn are her sisters, Jeannie (Tex) Stirling, Alberta, Angel (Joey) Bonar, Millville, Laura (Guy) Power, Little Pond; and her brother, Gordon (Sylvia) Power, Alder Point; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Steven Power, husbands, William Cook and Gerald Hodder and brother-in-law, Rickey Carey.
There will be no visitation. The funeral mass to celebrate her life will take place Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Alder Point, with Fr. Peter MacLeod officiating. The burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bras d’Or.
