It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Mary (Horyl) McPhee in the home where she was born, on Nov. 3, 2009.
Mary was a daughter of the late Stephen and Marie (Cvanda) Horyl.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who dedicated her life to taking care of her family.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Church, River Ryan.
Mary was the owner and operator of Horyl’s Store on Union Highway.
She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and cherished great-granddaughter. She always enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Maria (Brian) Fardy, Bedford, N.S., Theresa (Michael) McCarthy, River Ryan; sons, Terence, Scotchtown, and Stephen, River Ryan; grandchildren, Terry, Michael, Amy, Adam, Eric and Nicole; cherished great-granddaughter, Jorja; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, Terence, brothers, Joe, Frank and Stephen Horyl and one sister, who was also her best friend, Stella (Horyl) Nugent.
Cremation has taken place.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Saturday, Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. at the Parish Church of Saint Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford, with a luncheon to follow at the KOC hall, New Waterford.
In memory of Mary, donations may be made to the Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or Cape Breton Cancer Patient Comfort Fund.
