It is with deepest sorrow that we the family announce the peaceful passing of Jean MacLean on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney with her family at her side.
Born in Frenchvale, C.B., she was the daughter of the late Archibald and Annabelle (Gillis) MacKinnon.
Jean was a longtime resident of 80 French St., Whitney Pier, and a devoted member of Holy Redeemer parish and Holy Redeemer CWL. Her faith sustained her through every crisis. She loved her family and cherished her friends. She lived a wonderful life with the love of her life, her husband John at her side.
Jean is survived by daughters, Beverly Phillips, Barbara Mattia and Claire (David) Jones, all of Whitney Pier; sons, Ian (Donna), British Columbia, and Jim (Phyllis), Howie Centre. Also left to mourn is her sister, Rosaire MacKinnon, Sydney; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Alexina MacKinnon, Beechmount, and Johnanna MacKinnon, Beaver Cove.
Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband, John in January 2000, sisters, Lucy MacKinnon, Beechmount, Mary Wickham, Isobel Smedley, Margaret Behrman, Katherine Gorton, all of the U.S.A. Chris MacIntyre, Sydney, brothers, Hector, John Michael, Murdock, Roland, Archie and James MacKinnon, all of Cape Breton, and son-in-law, Gerry Mattie in 2000.
The family would like to thank everyone at the MacGillivray Guest Home who showed such loving concern and kindness to mum during her time of residence.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6 at Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Errol MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund.
